Martyrs Day – 23 March

“Shaheedon Ki Chitayon Par Judenge Har Baras Mele, Watan Par Marne Waalo Ka Yahi Baaki Nishan Hoga”

23rd of March is declared as the martyrs day in India to remember the sacrifice and pay homage to the Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar. Who can forget these three freedom fighters that caught the nerves of the youth and made the youth of that time realize that it’s enough of the British tyranny and it is the time to bang their heads. Bhagat singh and the entire Nujawan Bharat Sabha can be credited for awakening of the people of India against Britsh dictatorship especially the youths and even today he is the most sought after youth Icon. Let us look briefly know the importance of this day.Martrys

Bhagat Singh was born in Punjab into a Sikh family. Since his birth he was of rebellious nature. His father was associated with Gadar Party which worked for the independence of India. Later when he went to the college, he studied the Marxist ideologies and was greatly influenced by it. He collaborated with the Freedom fighters like Chandrashekhaar Azad, Rajguru, Ramprasad Bismil and many others to fight against the births rule. In the year 1928 when Lala Lajpat Rai died as a result of Brithsh assault, he took a vow to revenge his death.   He along with Shivaram Rajguru, Sukhdev Thapar and Azad planned to kill James.A Scott who was responsible for the death of Lajpat Rai. But my mistake another British officer was killed. The two of them including Batukeshwar Dutt later threw bomb into the British assembly on 8th April 1929 and got caught. During the trial Bhagat Singh and his mates kept 116 day fast for their basic rights. On 23rd March 1931 Bhagat Singh along with Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar were charged with murder and hanged in Lahore Jail. Martyrdom fair is organized on the same day in Ferozpur to pay tribute to these brave young men who sacrificed their life for the sake of their motherland.

This was all about these men who are not present physically but they all teach us to be brave and be loyal to our motherland. In schools two minutes of silence is observed on this day to pay homage.   Jai Hind!!!! Jai hind!!! Jai hind!!!!
